Look Up

13th August 2015
Lincoln
By Becki Ashton
DRAFT 1

Don’t let your eyes turn square

from the endless blink-less text

that prays on your weak mind

and fills your thoughts full of doubt

Don’t let the sadness and social mind fuck

take the beautiful that is around you

that cranial descention of head tilt

and the chit-ta chat-ta of fingers on screens

Take your thumb off the on button

and look up into mother earth’s design

breathe in the air and stare at the birds

that fly high above your head and house

Let the world see you, so you can see it back

don’t let news, politics and debate pull you in

down into a pit of depression and anxiety

take your hands off and just look up

The Nodding Man

Lincoln
By Becki Ashton
DRAFT 1

“Umm, yes. I see. Yeah…Yeah”

He nods

He agrees

He smiles and looks up

He writes and agrees

“Oh yes, ummm, of course, yeah”

He writes

He looks

He breathes in and writes

He agrees and nods

What did they say?

He didn’t hear it

Wait, what?

…..he nods, agrees, smiles….”yeah”

The Dying Ghost Star

10th August 2015
Lincoln
By Becki Ashton
DRAFT 1

It dies, but it takes millions to disappear

it shines, glows, sparkles for the stars

a mesmerising blue flare filling deep space

shards of glittery fire balls arch over

and curve under the pink framed beauty

it fears not of it’s end, for it is just light

but light that illuminates the darkness

and shines through the galaxy

upon the years that have passed by

Hues of the nebula fizzle and burn

constellation Hydra holds its place

but only for now, as soon it will be gone

slowly fading, passing from this void

stellar wind swirls around and spits it out

choking on the star dust within

they won’t stay around forever

it will create a pathway, a gate, a window

to others who want to live for all of time

but they will fade, die, no longer exist
